The Community Cat Coalition (CCC) is very pleased to announce a new member in our network, South County Cats (SCC). South County Cats is a small all-volunteer group based in southeast King County. Sally Halela, founder, said the following about this partnership:
We partnered with CCC because we share a vision to make lives better for community cats through spay and neuter. SCC had many of the CCC programs already in place. The CCC complements SCC’s work with their program for providing medical assistance for feral cats when possible, as SCC has very limited funding for medical/veterinary care.
In 2013, we acquired a transport vehicle with a grant from the Petco Foundation. We brought Pasado’s Spay Station to south King County providing no/low-cost spay/neuter for dogs and cats for income-restricted south King County residents. We also partnered with Regional Animal Services-King County and Petco in Covington to bring an off-site adoption center to Petco where over 40 cats have been adopted. South County Cats has facilitated nearly 8,000 cat spay/neuters since incorporating in July 2006. It has placed over 2,000 cats and kittens, including feral cats that needed new homes due to the loss of caretakers.
The mission of South County Cats is to reduce feline homelessness, overpopulation, and euthanasia by providing financial assistance for low-income, disabled, or senior citizen pet owners to have their companion cat spayed or neutered and by assisting with the Trap-Neuter-Return of feral and free-roaming cats. The vision of South County Cats is to have a community where our shelters have space to provide temporary care for homeless pets and pets whose caretakers can no longer keep them due to life-changing circumstances. South County Cats’ programs include the Companion Cat Spay/Neuter, Trap-Neuter-Return, and Foster Kitten Spay/Neuter.
