Give Big is a major one day giving event designed to support local nonprofits. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the work that the Community Cat Coalition does to improve the lives of community cats and the people who care for them.

Our organization receives emails daily requesting help with community cats.  Most often people are for the cats but can’t afford to get them altered and vaccinated nor can they afford to feed a rapidly growing colony.

Earlier this year a case manager with a local social services organization reached out to us, “I have a senior client who is disabled. He has a small feral cat community of about 11 cats living on his property who he feeds. He is not physically able to trap & take the cats to be fixed as he is in a wheelchair and lacks transportation. He also does not have the funds to pay for the cats to be spayed or neutered. Does your agency help with this kind of thing?”

We responded that of course we could help, explained the process, and made arrangements to visit the site. The gentleman feeding the cats took great care of them. He is somewhat isolated and these cats are his best friends – fed canned and dry food two and even three times a day.
And they looked great! We did ask him not to feed them in the morning when trapping was scheduled, and even though he worried about them being hungry he complied.

The trapping went great! We got eleven cats, transported them to a warm garage to hold the night before surgery and then to the clinic early the next morning. Surgeries went well, 6 males and 5 females. (think about how many kittens there would have been this spring) The cats were recovered in the same garage and released back at home the next morning. ‘Mike’ was thrilled to have his friends back home and was extremely appreciative of our help and not having to worry about his colony growing.

Sadly, we get emails like this every day.  And it is only because of people like you, who support our small all volunteer organization, that we are often able to help, greatly improving the lives of the community cats and the wonderful people who love and care for them.
